Who It’s For
Our group programs are for adults, teens, and parents of teens who are struggling with a variety of different eating issues, including binge eating, ARFID, and more. We also offer intensive group programs for clients who need extra support.
How It Works
Being a member of a therapeutic group offers immense benefits. It helps you realise that you’re not alone, and it introduces you to other people who are struggling with similar issues. Many people find that an opportunity to support one another helps with their own journey.
Group sessions are held both virtually and in-person. Groups are typically kept small, and sessions usually run for 60-90 minutes each week over the course of 6-8 weeks. In these groups, there is an education component as well as group discussion and a goal setting exercise.
Services
During this 6-week group, prioritising safety and confidentiality, teens will have the opportunity to learn about how to meet their nutritional needs at a crucial time of growth and development. Teenagers get skills to plan realistic meals and snacks based on their schedules and preferences, and how to navigate the social pressures of idealized body types.
During this 8-week group therapy, participants will learn about how their brains and emotions are driving the seemingly unbreakable cycle of bingeing. Explore the neurobiology of binge-eating, triggers and develop alternate coping strategies.
Eating often becomes a core coping strategy for academic, social and family stresses during the teen years. Out of control eating patterns can lead to increased stress and shame which are difficult to interrupt without support. Connected Eating’s Teen Bingeing/Emotional Eating Group program will help de-stigmatise eating patterns and optimise intake while teaching alternative coping strategies to cope with stress.
This group addresses the unique needs of those with subclinical eating disorders or who are in their later stages of eating disorder recovery. If you’re struggling with unrealistic standards related to your eating, weight, and shape, this group is for you. Self-hating attitudes towards the body are confronted through weekly psychoeducation, meal planning, support, and empathy.
Learn how to manage your transition from high school to post secondary without compromising the recovery process. This group will cover strategies to manage cafeteria meal plans, eating on campus, and healthy coping strategies to manage academic stress. Individual follow-up may be offered in certain geographic locations to maintain progress all the way through to returning home for the holidays.
Struggling with ARFID? This group program was designed for you. Over the course of the program, you’ll meet others who are struggling with ARFID, and come away with an individualized food exposure plan. You’ll also learn techniques to manage your food-related stress and identify unhelpful thinking patterns surrounding food.
After this 6-week group, your teen will feel relief and less alone in their struggle with ARFID. Alongside their peers, they’ll learn about the different types of ARFID, how the disorder progresses, and develop their skills and motivation to introduce new foods.
This group is for parents and caregivers of youth aged 5 to 20 who are struggling with ARFID. Parenting a young person with ARFID can be challenging. Meals may feel like a constant struggle, and you have likely been given conflicting advice about whether or not to cater to their food preferences. You probably feel worried about their health and you wonder if they’re getting enough nutrition. In this weekly group, caregivers learn the latest research about ARFID, create individualized goals for supporting their child, and learn coaching and feeding skills to increase the variety of their food their child will accept.
